Seek first to understand, then to be understood.
Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.
It may come across as if I'm 'interrogating', but I don't like to formulate an opinion, reaction, or emotion without a complete and full understanding of the topic, situation, or idea at hand.
I will ask all sorts of questions so that the next action I take, or opinion I give, has been fully assessed in my brain with as much information as I could possibly get.
That way their are no misunderstandings. No opinions formulated from ego. No emotional outburst. No reaction coming from a limiting belief or past wound.
It's calm, collected, and informed.
